Entry Form
Eligibility
Open to journalists working in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. All entries MUST have been published or broadcast between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2007.
Judging
Entries are judged on excellence, service to the community and contribution to the publics understanding of issues and events.
Professionals outside the eligibility area do the judging.
If none of the entries in a category meet the standards for excellence, no award will be presented in that category.
Judges will reject entries that do not comply with contest rules.
Accuracy
Any corrections, clarifications or retractions made after initial publication or broadcast.
Any written challenges to a reports accuracy that were sent to the entrant or the news organization by or on behalf of people mentioned in the report. These include letters, e-mails or legal papers.
Deadline
Entries must be postmarked by February 6, 2008. Download an entry form [PDF] here.
Fees
Members: $45 per entry
Non-Members: $60 per entry
To qualify for the $45 entry fee for members, you must supply your personal SPJ member number on the entry form.
If it is a team entry, only one member of the team needs to be a member to receive the reduced rate.
Make check or money orders payable to Green Eyeshade Awards SPJ. Sorry, no credit cards accepted.
Multiple entries may be accompanied by a single check or money order. Be sure to indicate which entries are covered by the single payment, either with an attached note or with attached copies of the entry forms.
If your payment is sent separately by your companys finance department, a letter must be included with your entry stating so and providing the name and contact information for your finance department.
No fees will be refunded.
Entries
Each entry must have an accompanying entry form.
Submit two (2) copies of each entry and entry form.
Each article or story is considered a single entry, except where noted.
All entries become the property of Green Eyeshade Awards SPJ Inc.
Entries will not be returned.

Awards
All prizes will be awarded at the Annual Green Eyeshade Awards banquet in June 2008.

Divisions and Categories
Print Division
This division is further divided into:
Large dailies: circulation of more than 50,000
Small dailies: circulation up to 50,000
Non-dailies: weeklies, fortnightlies and others
Magazines: monthly or weekly
Indicate on the entry form whether the publication is a large daily, small daily, non-daily or magazine.
Original tearsheets are preferred, but clear photocopies are acceptable.
Folded tearsheets or photocopies can be submitted in a plain 8.5-by-11 manila folder or mounted in a folder or booklet no larger than 11-by-17 inches.
Limit series to a maximum of 10 stories.
Television Division
Entries in the television categories will be accepted in VHS or DVD format.
A series should be entered on one videotape or one DVD and limited to five stories.
Enclose entry form and supporting materials with the VHS or DVD in a clasped envelope with name of entrant and category number on envelope.
Remove all commercial breaks from entry. Voiceovers and narratives allowed if part of the original piece.
Radio Division
Radio entries may be submitted on standard audiocassettes or CDs.
Series should be limited to five stories and submitted on one tape or CD.
Tapes/CDs, entry forms and supporting material must be enclosed in a clasped envelope with name of entrant and category number on envelope.
Remove all commercial breaks from entry.
Online Division
Entrants in all online categories should keep their nominated sites intact and accessible until the winners are announced.
Submit archived material, with proof of publication date and time.
Do not update original posting of site/page.
Web sites with parallel print or broadcast editions should explain how the entry differed from or enhanced the coverage and submit materials that show that the site did more than repurpose.
Indicate on entry form whether online publication is affiliated (that is, owned by or partnered with media organizations whose primary outlets are not based on the Web, such as broadcast stations, newspapers or magazines) or independent (standalone sites not owned or partnered with print or broadcast media organizations).
