Seeking truth
The Society of Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics says "Seek truth and report it."
Therefore, is it not an ethical duty of the news media to provide the truth whenever lies and misleading comments are made by people in the news? Merely reporting confrontations over what is being said at town hall meetings is not seeking the truth and reporting it. Untruths should be labeled and fully explained. Conflict is news and makes for interesting reports, but such reports without the truth are a disservice to readers.
