Utah SPJers talk access

By Allison Barlow Hess
Utah SPJ Sunshine Chairwoman

Members of  the Utah Headliners Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists recently educated nearly 300 members of the Utah League of Cities and Towns about open meetings/open records.

Utah law changed significantly in the last legislative session and city officials need updatding about the changes.  SPJ Board members Ed Carter and Allison Barlow Hess, briefly presented the most significant changes and provided a handout with internet links for more extensive research.

The Utah League of Cities and Towns has asked SPJ to make the presentation an annual event.  Utah's Attorney General, who is charged by law, with Open Meetings' training, has also asked to join the panel.  SPJ offered an open invitation to cities to provide training in smaller forums throughout the year.
