Each year, the SPJ Board of Directors and the SPJ Freedom of Information
Committee recognizes individuals and groups for extraordinarily strong efforts
to preserve and strengthen the First Amendment.
Eligibility
Open nomination. Nominees are not limited to
journalists (may also include legislators, judges, attorneys, law-enforcement
officials, government officials, organizations, individuals).
Nominations
Nomination form
should be accompanied by letter(s) of recommendation which addresses the
nominee’s efforts to preserve and strengthen the First Amendment and why the
nominee is deserving of this national recognition. Additional supporting
materials are welcomed.
Winner Announcement and
Presentation
Winners will be honored at the President's Installation
Banquet at the 2007 SPJ Convention and National Journalism Conference in
Washington.
Deadlines
Nominations must be
postmarked on or before May 25. The award is continuing in nature. There
are no deadlines for nominations nor schedules or predetermined number for
selection. Nominations should be mailed, faxed or e-mailed to:
