Maryland SPJ pro chapter president speaks out for cameras in courtrooms

Bryan Sears, president of the Maryland SPJ pro chapter, told a special work group that it should recommend overturning the state's ban on cameras in criminal trials. Maryland is one of 16 states that doesn't allow cameras in criminal trials. Sears was one of many journalists who advocated for broadcasters to have the same rights as print journalists. The work group will continue to take public comments through Nov. 12 and then draft a report by Feb. 1 for the state's judges to consider. See story.
