SPJ applauds Senate passage of FOIA bill; urges House to take up
Kudos to the Senate for passing the OPEN Government Act last week. Now we hope the House takes it up soon and moves it along. The bill creates an independent ombudsman to mediate FOIA disputes, creates a tracking system for requests, and makes it easier for requestors to recover legal costs when agencies improperly deny requests.
