Happy New Year: President signs FOIA reform into law

On Monday President Bush signed into law the OPEN Government Act of 2007, which creates a federal ombudsman for mediating FOIA disputes, requires agencies to meet the 20-day deadline to respond to FOIA requests, and bolsters FOIA in other ways.
