Military releases AP photographer after more than two years of "detainment"
Finally, the U.S. military decided it will release Associated Press photographer Bilal Hussein after detaining him in prison for more than two years with no trial on suspicion he had links to insurgents. The government determined that the photographer is not a threat, and planned to release him Wednesday. Hussein, an Iraqi whose work for AP helped earned the Pulitzer, was imprisoned April 12, 2006, and was never brought to trial. The U.S. military alleged that Hussein possessed bomb-making materials (film cannisters and fixer?), conspired with insurgents (checked the spelling of their names?), and had improper contacts with kidnappers (shot their photos?). On Sunday an Iraqi panel ordered a halt to the flimsy proceedings. See
