Write about FOI and win a prize

Want to write about FOI and maybe win a prize? The Sunshine Week Citizen Journalism Award essay contest has begun and the first monthly winner was announced this month. Ryan Headley, a student at Rowan University, was the first winner, writing about why presidential candidates should state their positions on FOI. The contest is in partnership between ASNE's Sunshine Week and Helium.com. Entries are rated by writers on Helium. For June, the topic is on whether candidates should be required to release their medical records. Amateur AND professional writers are welcome to enter, writing 1,000 words or less using original research and information found on the Sunshine Week Web site. Monthly winners get a certificate and qualify to compete for the grand prize, which is not specified on their Web sites, to be presented March 15-21, 2009, for Sunshine Week. For more information, see the Helium Web site or Sunshine Week Web site.
