IRS forced to comply with 34-year-old FOIA request
This FOIA request might take the record for longest to be fulfilled. Last week a federal judge ruled that the Internal Revenue Service must provide information requested in a FOIA request first submitted in 1974 by Susan B. Long, then a University of Washington graduate student and now a Syracuse professor, according to a
story by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. Now that's a doozy. A few years back a
report by The National Security Archive indicated that the longest pending FOIA request dated back to 1981. No telling how many other requests still exist that have been pending even longer. Access delayed is access denied, but keep at it and 34 laters you still might get the information!
