School superintendent contract ruled public in Illinois

The 2nd District Illinois Appellate Court ruled that Community Unit School District 200 must provide the contract for a former superintendent, according to a story by the Naperville Sun. A citizen sued in 2006 after the district refused to release a copy of the contract claiming it was part of his personnel file. Kudos to the citizen for suing over this issue. Clearly an agency's top official's contract should be public and not kept secret because of "personnel" or "privacy." Even my salary is public (the Arizona Daily Star has it online, along with other public employees, good for them), and I'm just a lowly assistant professor. If an agency ever tries to pull that excuse on you, fight it. Write about it. The public pays their (and my) salaries. Citizens will be on your side.
