National daily looking for freelancers
A national daily editor is seeking highly qualified writers and their
ideas for its back page feature. The need is particularly great in the
Midwest, Northwest and Southwest.
Editors set a very high bar
for writing in the publication and have even declined to use some
staffers' work. Here's what the editors are looking for:
-- Ideas from everywhere on any topic (funny, interesting, curious or serious)
-- personal essays with reporting as foundation
-- serials with cliffhangers that run over two or three days
-- humor (satire, commentary, etc.)
-- behind the scenes at world events
-- stories in your own backyard (curiosities, oddball stuff, compelling)
-- back story of a news event that will not necessarily make page 1
According
to the editor: "anything that provides a platform to write well...told
in anecdotal story form with color and flair and attitude." Editors are
highly selective. Send an e-mail to wendyhoke(at)comcast(dot)net to
receive URLs of past stories and editor's contact info.
