More job opportunities brought to you by SPJ
After a relaxing and much-needed vacation in Florida, I returned to an e-mail from an editor at the
Christian Science Monitor who was thrilled with the freelancer she found here.
We're
fast becoming a resource for top editors. Let's make sure that we are
always delivering the best writing and reporting on time so that they
continue to turn to SPJ as a resource for highly qualified professional
freelancers.
I would only say that if you are NOT an SPJ member
and you are lucky enough to land an assignment from a tip found here,
that you immediately sign up for
membership.
Otherwise, I will have to screen everyone through the membership
database before referring them to editors. I don't want to have to do
that, nor do I want to spend the time. But if you've taken the gift of
a job tip, the least you can do is thank us by becoming a member.
Here's the e-mail I received:
Thanks for putting Cynthia Anderson, from Boston, onto me. She did a profile
of a teen "hijabi" for us that was great. And I'm hoping for more from her.
Thanks much...and anyone else you want to send my way, I'd love.
Best

PEOPLE Magazine is looking for Midwest freelancersPeople Magazine is looking for experienced freelance correspondents who can cover newsbreaking stories in the Midwest, specifically in
Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana and Missouri. Newspaper experience and knowledge of courts and city government is essential.
Editors,
based in the Chicago Bureau, are looking for freelancers across a
state's geography in order to be able to respond to news in a timely
fashion. Assignments will vary and will be dictated by news. There's
also the potential to work on national round-up stories.
The
bureau covers a wide swath of the U.S. including: Illinois, Indiana,
Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North
and South Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS QUERY IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE THE IDENTIFIED AREA.Save
your ideas for later. They are only looking for correspondents who can
cover events. If you're interested, please send me an e-mail and I'll
forward the contact info.
There's one caveat. Time Inc. is
moving toward having all stories filed by correspondents written up by
staff writers. So in the near future, any pieces you file will likely
have a shared byline.
