Criminal Libel Laws Are Alive, At Least in Colorado

Journalists don't worry much about criminal libel in the United States, but that doesn't mean the law has disappeared.

Criminal libel is still on the books in a handful of states, including Colorado where a former high school student recently pleaded guilty to it. The kid was accused of impersonating a high school teacher on MySpace.com and trying to do some serious damage to the teacher's reputation.
