Grambling Provost Halts Student Newspaper
The student newspaper at Grambling State University in Louisiana has stopped publication on the orders of a school provost.
According to an article in the Monroe (La.) News Star, Provost Robert Dixon said he was stopping publication of the newspaper until the "quality" of the publication improves.
In an article released by the Student Press Law Center, Gramblinite Editor in Chief Darryl Smith said Dixon was unhappy about recent Gramblinite articles that had cast the university in a negative light.
The SPLC quotes Smith as saying, “They’re saying that we have nothing but negative stories in the paper. To suspend the paper — to stop the one thing the students look for after a long week of classes — that’s absurd.”
