On the road this week

I have been on the road this week traveling from Minnesota to Oklahoma to visit relatives. Laptops are a great invention provided you can find wireless service. Updates from me to this blog will be dependent on that.

The trip gives me a great chance  to sample papers and TV news around the Midwest. I also like to work in informal meetings with SPJ chapters since being elected secretary-treasurer in August. On a trip to Columbus in October, I met with Central Ohio and Ohio State. This time, I have planned two meetings.

I worked in a very nice visit  Monday with Donna McGuire of the Kansas City Press Club, SPJ's chapter there. The timing was good because I about tipped over in my chair Saturday when I read about the Star being ordered to take down a story from its web site. That situation has been resolved.

Tonight, I am meeting with the Oklahoma chapter in Norman at the home of a couple  of board members. I am looking forward to spending time with them.

There is some travel the rest of the year. I'm in suburban Minneapolis for the Region 6 spring conference, an event I helped organize for seven years. In April, it's to Detroit and the Region 4 spring conference.

The national baord meeting  is in Indianapolis in May and I plan to return in June for the Scripps Institute. In August, executive board goes  to Raleigh, N.C. and I am looking forward to seeing everyone in DC in October for the national convention.
