Seeking sources: Hatfill case heats up

Subpoenas could be looming for reporters who have been covering the Steven Hatfill case. The New York Sun reports that the identies of confidential sources might be critical to the scientist's case. The story includes comment from SDX board member and Minnesota Pro chapter board member Jane Kirtley.

SPJ and LDF have supported The New York Times in its effort to defend itself against a lawsuit. Hatfill was a person of interest in the FBI's investigation into the anthrax killings in 2001. He is suing the FBI and some media organizations.

On March 11 2007, Hatfill's lawyer Tom Connolly in his lawsuit against the former Attorney General of the United States (John Ashcroft) and the FBI, admitted that his client had "Puffed on his resume. Absolutely. Forged a diploma. Yes, that's true."
