The world will be watching

The cameras in the courtroom issue will be in the national spot light as Court TV broadcasts the Phil Spector trial. What happens and the behavior of the folks and the preception in the lgal community, the strongest opponent of camera in the courts, could influence any momentum the issue has in places such as Minnesota. In Minnesota, a group of journalism organizations has asked the state Supreme Court to reconsider the state's rule that requires four parties to sign off on having a camera or recording device in the courtroom.

It is important to recognize that the Spector case will not be the norm. Most coverage of trials will be TV news photographers or a videography from a newspaper web site shooting footage of key testimony or a ruling. The footage will air as part of news stories. Most coverage will not be gavel-to-gavel as the Spector and the more infamous and notorious O.J. Simpson trial was.
