Salt Lake reporter, Utah SPJ prez subpoenaed

Salt Lake Deseret News reporter Ben Winslow and his supporters are headed to St. George, Utah, today to fight a subpoena Winslow received from the lawyer of polygomist leader Warren Jeffs. The Salt Lake Tribune has the story. Winslow is the President of the Utah Headliners Club, the SPJ chapter in Salt Lake. Former Region 9 director Jay Evensen, who works at the Deseret News, called me and said the situation might be worse than the article portrays. Winslow could potentially go jail. Utah has no Shield law.

Update: Evensen has sent a link to a more detailed story in the Deseret News.

Update: Evensen called me about 1:30 p.m. The judge has tossed the subpoena. The good news is that Winslow is in the clear.
