When You're 64
The path to the golden years of retirement looks bumpy, according to a
PBS Frontline special that aired last night. "Can You Afford to Retire?" by
Hedrick Smith
explores how middle-class Americans face increasing threats to their
pensions from corporate bankruptcies. Using United Airlines' bankruptcy
as an example, Smith shows how workers who once thought they had
secured their financial futures are now finding their pensions stripped
away through the intricacies of bankruptcy law. In addition to the
documentary, the Frontline package includes useful answers to
frequently asked questions and profiles of retirees who saw their nest
eggs disappear.
