Sisters
The
Minneapolis Star Tribune and reporter
Maura Lerner
have done a masterful job of following the fate of Abbigail and
Isabelle Carlsen, the once-conjoined twins from Fargo who are
recovering from separation surgery. This is a great example of how to
use online multi-media resources to best tell a story. In addition to
Lerner's beautiful three-part narrative of the girls' path to surgery,
the STrib's Web site includes regular updates, a slideshow by
photographer
Joey McLeister accompanied by the voices
of the girls' parents, information on where people can send donations,
and links to Web sites about the girls created by their parents and by
the Mayo Clinic, where the surgery was done. An audio interview of
Lerner on how she reported the story is especially interesting. Thanks
to faithful reader Brian Summers for the suggestion.
