Local Buzz on Global Warming

The Boston Globe has been running the terrific "45th Parallel: Warming Where We Live" series, which localizes the global warming story by looking at its impact around New England. For example, Beth Daley explores "In Mosquito, a Small Tale of Climate Change" how some mosquitoes have already evolved to adapt to climate changes. The evolution of the mosquito, Daley writes, "illustrates a sobering consequence of climate change: The species best suited to adapting may not be the ones people want to survive." Other stories in the series examine how changes in the winter climate are hurting the New England region, how carbon offsets are not always all they're cracked up to be and how the U.S. lags behind other countries in preparing for global warming.
