Getting Rich off the Poor
Brian Grow and Keith Epstein of Business Week have delivered a terrific special report about how more firms are making high-interest loans to the people least able to pay them back, leaving them in "a thicket of debt from which many never emerge." Grow and Epstein's "The Poverty Business" uses Federal Reserve data to show that the poor pay much higher interest rates than people who are well off and that the gap is growing. In addition to deftly using numbers to tell their story, Epstein and Grow describe the human impact of these marketplace changes. Thank you Eric Ferkenhoff for the suggestion. www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/07_21/b4035001.htm?chan=rss_topStories_ssi_5
