One Marine's Battle Back Home

The Times Herald-Record in New York's Catskills and Hudson Valley deserves applause for its continuing coverage of what's happened to a local marine since he returned home from Iraq with severe brain injuries. In the "Saving Sgt. Ryan" series, Paul Brooks and other members of the Times Herald-Record staff have followed Sgt. Eddie Ryan from the time he learned he would receive a Purple Heart in January, 2005, through last week, when he learned the VA was cutting back on his therapy. In between have been stories on his lengthy hospital recovery, his joyous trip home and his family's outrage upon learning that he was wounded by friendly fire and wouldn't receive the Purple Heart. I like how the Times Herald-Record is telling the big story of what happens to military veterans through the experiences of one person. Thank you Phil Kaplan for the suggestion. www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=NEWS43
