Hydrant Horrors

Reporter Dave Savini and producer Michele Youngerman of CBS 2 in Chicago have run a terrific story revealing that fire hydrants operated by the country's largest private water utility often don't work right. Their "Out of Order" investigates how Illinois American Water's hydrants are sometimes empty or cracked, can't be opened or have dangerously low water pressure. Some of these problems have existed for up to six months without being repaired, Savini reports. They have great footage of investigators checking out-of-order hydrants next to nursing homes and an elementary school. Thank you to Investigative Reporters & Editors for alerting me to this story. http://cbs2chicago.com/investigations/local_story_127221813.html
