SPJ Chapter Grants
SPJ will invest $5,000 to fund local chapter programs during 2011-2012, and your chapter could receive up to $500 for your program or activity. All fully chartered SPJ chapters in good standing with the national organization are eligible to submit a grant proposal. Your chapter must have filed a 2010-2011 annual report by the stated deadline to be eligible.
To apply, follow the three simple steps below.
1. Think it up.
SPJ encourages unique and diverse programming. Past programs addressed ethics, technology issues, campus crime coverage, freelancing, covering disasters, copy editing, job hunting, writing techniques, diversity, skills building, and more. Use your imagination, and meet your members needs.
2. Write it down.
Proposals should include:
The chapter name and region number
A contact person and their complete contact information including mailing, email and telephone number. (If your chapter receives grant funds, this person will receive all communication concerning the grant).
The name of the proposed program
Date the program will be held
A description of the program, including objectives.
How the program will benefit the chapters members
Any relevant details of the program, such as speakers and format
The requested grant amount, not to exceed $500
A preliminary budget on how the grant funds will be spent
3. Turn it in.
Proposals must be submitted by midnight, EST, on September 15, 2011. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. All proposals must be submitted using the Chapter Grant Application form, which can be accessed by clicking here.
Additional Details
Grants of up to $500 may be awarded. Chapters may receive less or be asked to match a grant amount with funds of their own.
All grant applicants will be notified of the grant selections by October 11, 2011.
If your chapter is selected to receive a grant, the funds will be distributed AFTER your chapter submits the required grant program recap. To receive the grant funds, awarded chapters must file this report within one month of the completion of their program. Receipts for program related expenses should be submitted with the report. After the report/receipts are reviewed, your chapter will be reimbursed the amount of your grant (not to exceed $500) for expenses incurred for the program. The program must take place by July 31, 2012.
Grant submissions for spring conference programming will not be considered.
