Kids beat up three Knoxville police officers. Will the First Amendment get the same treatment?

No, it's not a joke. Teenagers beat up these Knoxville cops May 13. The oldest kid's lawyer sought unconstitutional prior restraint in the case to prevent the Knoxville media from reporting his name. (Oddly enough, they've already reported it: It's Stephen L. Soles, 17, and you can see his picture here on the News-Sentinel Web site. One more time: Stephen Soles. ) Meanwhile, Knoxville PD is denying the public access to the officers' in-car video tapes. The News-Sentinel and two K-ville TV stations have filed suit. And in case anyone wants a refresher, you can check out the full text of the First Amendment here, with some words of wisdom from the good folks at the First Amendment Center.
