The Middle Tennessee Pro Chapter's scholarship fund was previously called the Barney Ballard Memorial Scholarship,
named for Fred R. "Barney" Ballard, an Associated Press reporter in Nashville who was one of the early members of the chapter. Ballard died in 1964.
- 1964: Larry Edward Eldridge of Livingston, who was attending UT.
- 1965: Tommy Gillem, a senior at Maplewood High School in Nashville
- 1966: John Jiran, a senior at Maplewood High
- 1967: Rebecca Ann Hickerman of Overton High School in Nashville. Second place winner, Jean Katheryn Byrd of St. Bernard Academy. Third place winner: Lynda Farley of Lewisburg.
