LITTLE ROCK — The directors of the Southeast’s oldest journalism awards program are pleased to announce that entries are now being accepted for the 58th annual Green Eyeshade Awards.

The Green Eyeshade Awards recognize outstanding journalism in 11 southeastern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. Journalists who work in print, television, radio and online in these states are encouraged to enter.

To be eligible, entries must have been published or broadcast during the 2007 calendar year. All entries must be in English and be postmarked by Feb. 6, 2008.

Each submission must include a completed entry form, entry fee and be accompanied by a cover letter. Members of SPJ can enter the Green Eyeshade Awards for $45. The non-member fee is $60.

Started by the Atlanta Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in 1950, the contest is now administered by regional directors for the Society, the nation’s most broad-based journalism organization. SPJ works to improve journalism, protect First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and of the press and encourage high standards of ethical behavior in the practice of journalism.

For more information on the awards and to obtain an entry form, please visit http://www.spj.org/a-eyeshade.asp. Green Eyeshade Awards Administrator Sarah Prickett also may be contacted at (501) 399-3638.
