SPJ Convention is on

9/19/2001

The Society of Professional Journalists annual convention, Oct. 4 to 6, 2001 in Seattle/Bellevue Washington, will take place as scheduled.

A conference call meeting of the SPJ Executive Committee, along with SDX Board President Paul McMasters and Convention Chair George Erb, affirmed that the convention and its associated events will go on as planned.

The committee agreed that any one of three conditions would have to bemet in order to cancel convention. Those are:

1. The FAA grounds airlines again or could not assure the safety of passengers.
2. War is formally declared or the United States becomes involved in a military operation of some sort.
3. There is a dramatic drop in registrations or speakers and panelists cancel their appearances at an unacceptable rate.

SPJ advises all attendees to check with airlines since schedule changes are now underway.

Information on SPJ's Seattle/Bellevue convention can be found here.
