FOI Committee
This committee is the watchdog of press freedoms across the nation. It relies upon a network of volunteers in each state organized under Project Sunshine. These SPJ members are on the front lines for assaults to the First Amendment and when lawmakers attempt to restrict the public's access to documents and the government's business. The committee often is called upon to intervene in instances where the media is restricted.

State Policies Governing Media Access
Media access to WDOC correctional facilities, field services offices, or the central office may be denied where there is undue risk to the safety, security, order or schedule of the location.

Requests for interviews with offenders and inmates must be directed in writing to the CEO of the location or the WDOC Public Information Officer in advance. The offender must agree to the interview, and the CEO must give final approval. The request should state purpose of the interview and the subject matter to be covered; requested date and time; correctional facility, field services office or location of offender; the duration of the interview; and requested location of the interview.

Rules Governing Reporting Tools
Individual contact between media members and prisoners is not allowed.

Visitation List Rules
Media visits with offenders/inmates can be approved if the offender/inmate agrees and the visit is approved by the facility CEO.

Execution Witness Policies
Representatives of the news media will not be permitted to witness an execution unless the media member is eligible to witness as a fiend or relative of the condemned inmate. (A specific execution policy is in draft form and will be issued in the future which may change this, according to a spokesperson.)

Required Forms
There are no forms for the media; however, any photographs or videos of inmates that identify the inmate require the inmate's written release.
