Lead the nation's largest, most broad-based journalism organization by running for a position on SPJ's Board of Directors.
SPJ is defined by its members, and the Society seeks board candidates who are passionate about its mission and reflect the diversity of the journalism industry.
Each member will vote electronically during Excellence in Journalism 2013 (EIJ13) in August, but the process starts now:

President-elect (elected every year)
Secretary-Treasurer (elected every year)
Vice President for Campus Chapter Affairs (two-year position)

Student Representative (two positions, elected every year)
Directors for Regions 2, 3, 6, 10, 11 and 12 (two-year position)

SPJ-FIU wants you to tell the story of Generation Y through an image. Read more details of the national contest online, but take note of the prizes:
- Have your photo posted on the South Florida News Service website, a professional publication that allows you to enter your photo in national competitions
- Have your photo published in the SPJ Quill magazine
- Have your photo featured on the SPJ South Florida Website and the SPJ Region 3 website
There will also be a South Florida contest winner, who receives an additional prize: a day at The Miami Herald shadowing a professional photographer. You will have the chance to take your own photos and maybe even pitch them to the Miami Herald editor.
Be creative, but adhere to ethical photojournalism practices. The deadline is April 7.
NEW MEDIA TRAINING FOR EDUCATORS
Bring the best of the Society of Professional Journalists' training to your campus! Thanks to a grant from the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation, the SPJ Journalism Training Program is now available to colleges and universities. Choose from modules on teaching about social media or mobile newsgathering -- or focus on the multimedia basics, including video storytelling and data visualization skills. CONGRATS, REGION 3 STUDENTS!
Winners of the Region 3 Mark of Excellence Awards were announced over the weekend at MediAtlanta, the region's spring conference. Congratulations to all the honorees! The results have been posted on spj.org.
Regional MOE winners will continue to be announced at the spring conferences over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for those results, too. Entries that placed first in their category move on to the national competition, and national winners will be named in late spring.

1. Registration for Excellence in Journalism 2013 (EIJ13) is open. As in now. You can register at this very minute.
2. Plan early = save money = happiness.
3. You could get a scholarship -- the deadline to apply is April 29.
4. There will be more than 1,000 journalists at EIJ13. Have you spruced up your business cards lately?
5. You may want to take an extra day or two to hang out in SoCal. Hollywood? Disneyland? Both? EVERYTHING?

INSTITUTE FOR EDUCATION REPORTERS
Reporters who cover education and the difficult issues around teacher evaluation are invited to apply "Grading the Teachers," a McCormick Specialized Reporting Institute on May 8-10 in Detroit.
This institute is funded by the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, working with The Poynter Institute for Media Studies. Participants will receive transportation, hotel accommodations and most meals. The institute is being organized by the Michigan State University School of Journalism and The Education Trust-Midwest. The Education Writers Association is assisting in planning. For details and to apply, visit www.gradingtheteachers.com. The deadline to apply is March 29, and applicants will be notified by April 5. The Specialized Reporting Institute will convene on Wednesday evening, May 8, with a reception, and conclude at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 10.
