By Ellen Kobe, SPJ Communications Department

EIJ RECAP

The Excellence in Journalism conference -- hosted by the Society of Professional Journalists, the Radio Television and Digital News Association and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists -- was a huge success in large part to our attendees, speakers, exhibitors, recruiters, performers and volunteers.

If you missed the event, or just want to continue basking in journo training, check out our recap website. It includes audio from training sessions, Instagram photos from the week and a Storify from each day.

INTRODUCING YOUR PRESIDENT

On the final night of EIJ, David Cuillier was installed as President of the organization for the 2013-2014 term. Read his blog post about the year ahead on Freedom of the Prez and look for a profile of him in the upcoming issue of Quill.

OTHER EIJ HAPPENINGS

We also honored several award winners at our Opening Business Session, Student Union and President's Installation Banquet. Congratulations to:

- The Deadline Club, SPJ Large Pro Chapter of the Year

- Virginia Pro, SPJ Small Pro Chapter of the Year

- DePaul University, SPJ Outstanding Campus Chapter of the Year

- Brian Eckert, SPJ Regional Director of the Year

- Dave Carlson, recipient of the Wells Memorial Key

LAST WEEK'S QUIZ

In what city was SPJ's fifty-year convention held?

Answer: Indianapolis

And the winner is ... Sid Hurlburt of the Washington D.C. Pro Chapter, who actually attended the fifty-year convention. Congrats!

THIS WEEK'S QUIZ
While giving Detroit advice, the mayor of Boston told what publication that he'd "blow up" the bankrupt city (later apologizing for his lack of sensitivity to the Boston bombings last Spring)?

Submit your answer to Ellen Kobe.
