On April 17th, SPJ turns 110 years old (Don’t we look great for our age?)

Celebrate this special day and show your SPJ pride by making a gift on the 4.17 Day of Giving. Whether you want to defend press freedom, train journalists, inspire the next generation or advocate for an open government, your donation will make a huge impact on the future of journalism. The purpose of 4.17 Day of Giving is to celebrate and expand SPJ’s great tradition of philanthropy and pride in the organization.

Become a 4.17 Day of Giving Online Ambassador

Frequently Asked Questions about the 4.17 Day of Giving

1. What is the 4.17 Day of Giving?

A day dedicated to raising money and awareness for SPJ, the SPJ Foundation and all of our programs fueled by the power of social media and peer-to-peer fundraising. We will use the #SPJProud theme to encourage members, supporters and friends to come together to celebrate SPJ’s important mission.

2. What is #SPJProud all about?

The official #hashtags for the campaign are #SPJProud and #journalism. Share why you are proud to be a part of the largest journalism association and share stories of how SPJ has made a difference in your career and in your life. Inspire others to join you in being SPJ Proud on the day.

Please use the theme and hashtags in all of your tweets and posts so the SPJ community can retweet, favorite and add to the buzz!

3. What are Peer Challenges, and how can I create one?

Throughout the day, participate in fun challenges that make your gift go even further. Compete to help your group claim the top spot on the Peer Challenge Leaderboard. Peer Challenges can be centered around anything — your chapter, your school, your newsroom, your friends/family or anything in between — and the creativity is all up to you. Have fun with it! Anyone can designate their donation for anybody else's Peer Challenge when they donate.

If you are interested in launching a Peer Challenge, please complete this quick web form here. After submitting the form, we will get your challenge code added to the site right away. (And if you submit your peer challenge before 4.17, it'll appear on the leaderboard as soon as Day of Giving begins!)

4. Who should I contact if I have additional questions?
