Want more information about being a 4.26 Day of Giving Online Ambassador?

As an online ambassador, you are asked to not only make a gift early on 4.26, but also to spread the word throughout the Day of Giving through social media, text, email and phone to generate excitement and momentum in order to achieve the goal of 108 gifts in one day.

The purpose of the 4.26 Day of Giving is to celebrate and expand SPJ’s great tradition of philanthropy and pride in the organization.

Use the hashtags #SPJProud #Journalism in your messages. Share why you are proud to be a SPJ member and why you are proud to support our efforts to improve and protect journalism.

1. What is the 4.26 Day of Giving?

A day dedicated to raising money and awareness for SPJ, the SDX Foundation and all of our programs fueled by the power of social media and peer-to-peer fundraising. We will use the #SPJProud theme to encourage members, supporters and friends to come together to celebrate SPJ’s important mission.

2. What is #SPJProud all about?

The official #hashtags for the campaign are #SPJProud and #journalism. Share why you are proud to be a part of the largest journalism association and share stories of how SPJ has made a difference in your career and in your life. Inspire others to join you in being SPJ Proud on the day.

Please use the theme and hashtags in all of your tweets and posts so that the SPJ community can retweet, favorite and add onto the buzz.

3. Why 108 Gifts?

April marks SPJ’s 108th birthday. Help us celebrate 108 years of improving and protecting journalism.

4. Who should I contact if I have questions?

Email or call SPJ Fundraising Coordinator Katie Hunt (317-920-4782) with any questions.

5. What if I am not well connected on social media?

You can spread the word by texting, emailing or calling your SPJ friends and colleagues. You would be amazed at the power a personal message can bring.

6. How will I get a list of SPJ people to contact?

Email Katie Hunt and we will attempt to get you the requested information prior to the Day of Giving.

You can help by:

1. Making a gift online on April 26

2. Asking your friends, coworkers and colleagues to make a gift

3. Spreading the word about the day

4. Watching the buzz, stories and pride in SPJ and reacting on social media.

We ask you to:

Email: Do you have a work, chapter, community or school listserv? Are there people you could shoot a quick email?

Phone: Text or call! What could be better than a group text with your journalism friends?

Twitter: Tweet, retweet, favorite! Use #SPJProud and #Journalism! We will be tweeting throughout the day, so you can simply retweet to pass the word along. If you’re feeling inspired, create your own buzz.

Facebook: Post, like, share anything you see on Facebook.

Instagram: Post and like anything you see on Instagram.

Snapchat: Snap your friends and let them know about the SPJ Day of Giving!

Who we are
Since its founding in 1961, the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation has promoted excellence and ethics in journalism. The SDX Foundation is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization that supports the educational programs of the Society of Professional Journalists and serves the professional needs of journalists and students pursuing careers in journalism.

Liberty and self-government require a well-informed public. It is the responsibility of journalists to provide fair, balanced and accurate information in a comprehensive, timely and ethical manner.
