The Society of Professional Journalists is seeking 10 interns for the EIJ News. Interns will cover the Excellence in Journalism conference using a variety of digital approaches (video, social, audio, photos, written stories) that will be published online. Collegiate multimedia journalists are invited to apply for these select positions.
This years conference is set for September 10-12 in Washington, D.C. Selected interns will need to arrive in D.C. on Sept. 9 and attend a mandatory afternoon staff meeting. The internship ends Sept. 13 at Noon.
You provide:
Energy, talent, great ideas and a good attitude
Your transportation to and from Washington, D.C.
Your own laptop for writing and production (if you cannot provide this, please alert us ahead of time)
Your own tools capable of capturing video, audio and photos
Money to cover out-of-pocket expenses (example: meals not provided by EIJ)
SPJ provides:
Complimentary conference registration
Complimentary four nights at conference hotel (interns will share the room with another intern)
Some, but not all, meals
Mentoring by professional journalists
Networking venues
A place to showcase your talents in front of many professionals
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in journalism or a related field
Not graduate before the start of the internship
Be available to be in Washington, D.C. from Sept. 9-13, 2020
Not be a past intern of the EIJ News team
Though membership in SPJ is not mandatory to apply, preference will be given to members of SPJ during the selection process. If not an SPJ member and if selected, we ask that you join SPJ
The following must be submitted or your application will not be considered:
Completed application
Cover letter (upload with application form)
Resume (include three references with complete contact information and upload with application form)
-- One recommendation letter
Up to three working links or attached files with multimedia content you have written and/or produced, including stories, photos, slideshows and audio/video packages.
Information about your existing social media footprint (Twitter, Vine, Tumblr, etc.).
