Meet the Trainers

Samantha Sunne

Samantha Sunne (@samanthasunne) is a freelance reporter based in New Orleans, where she runs a journalism/tech group called Hacks/Hackers. She also teaches journalists to utilize data and technology, and publishes a weekly newsletter called "Tools for Reporters."

Dan Petty

Dan Petty (@danielpetty) is director of audience development for Digital First Media, the corporate parent of newspapers including The Denver Post, San Jose Mercury News and Orange County Register. He develops and implements strategies to help grow the company's digital audience across web, mobile, social and other third-party platforms. He previously worked for The Denver Post as a senior editor, digital director of sports and social media editor and has an extensive background in multimedia journalism.

Dave Umhoefer

Dave Umhoefer (@GovWatcher ) is director of the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism at Marquette University, where he also teaches in the journalism department. He’s been an investigative reporter, editor and political reporter at the Milwaukee Journal and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, where he won a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting in 2008. He received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
