I've been a writer, a photographer, an editor. I've seen my work published in Christian Science Monitor, TIME, and dozens of other publications across the country - some you've heard of, many you haven't. I started my journey in the dimly-lit basement of a community weekly when I was 14 - a scared kid who loved to write, stunned to be offered money for what I would have done anyway. Twenty-two years and thousands of bylines later, I'm still enchanted with this life I've chosen, still captivated by the privilege of telling stories. I've covered everything from cattle rustlers to septuagenarian basketball players, but my specialties are Southern culture, civil rights, social justice, education, and religious trends. I'm endlessly curious about all things and available for short-notice travel throughout the U.S.
