I am a freelance writer and blogger always looking for assignments that challenge my reporting and writing skills and broaden my knowledge of the world.
My passion is learning people’s stories: the way we do things, individually and as a society; how we share our values and face our challenges; what motivates our interaction with the world. I’ve written about everything from the accidental death of a child, to the Islamic view of plastic surgery, to the connection between public speaking and music, and much more.
My special interests include religion (especially Islam), health care/medical issues, and public speaking.
I have a master of arts degree in print and multimedia journalism from Emerson College and I’m looking forward to entering the master of fine arts in creative nonfiction program at Goucher College in the summer of 2012.
I am president of the SPJ Houston pro chapter and a member of the Religion Newswriters Association, Association of Health Care Journalists, and the Muslimah Writers Alliance. I am based in Houston, TX, where I have lived since 2003.
