Turner is a masters student at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Originally from Fairhope, Ala., Turner was raised in Naples, Fla. He is a graduate of The Florida State University, where he earned his degree in English with a minor from Florida A&M University in broadcast journalism. He was the vice president and a co-founding member of the Florida State University chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists. He has won two regional SPJ awards—a first place for a radio feature and a third place for a feature article. During undergrad, Turner worked for every major news medium in Tallahassee. He started work at the community radio station, WVFS Tallahassee - 89.7FM. He also worked as a reporter, then news editor, for the FSView & Florida Flambeau, the newspaper serving the FSU community. He worked as one of the two live anchors for the FAMU "News 20 at 5" newscast, where he broke news about the Robert Champion hazing death—leading the newsroom team to be a finalist for the AP Award for newscasts. Turner finished undergrad working as a newsroom intern for WTXL Tallahassee, the local ABC affiliate. Twitter: @turnercowles Facebook:
