After growing up in Maine, Cole graduated from Emerson College with a B.F.A. in Writing, Literature & Publishing in 2009. He then attended the Columbia Publishing Course and interned for Rolling Stone and Esquire. From 2010-2013 he ran RealcityOnline.com, a publication with writers from several cities. In 2015, he received the Society of Silurians' Dennis Duggan Memorial Award and earned a M.A. in Urban Reporting from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

He also hosts a weekly show called Techno Trash on Boston Free Radio every Friday morning from 11-12. Listen at www.bostonfreeradio.com.
