After graduating with a journalism degree, I went directly to work in a library archives. I then went off to work as an intel analyst for two years, but when that grant-funded job ended, I came back to the same library as a cataloger.
The recession was fun.
In 2013, I went to a Las Cruces Press Women event. At the end of the event, an editor asked the audience if anyone was interested in writing. I remembered my journalism degree and snagged her business card; she gave me a shot.
I proceeded to email all the local editors with, "That writing thing? I do that!"
Now four years later, I have a full-time profession position as a development writer for a university, but still love my freelance work at newspapers and magazines. I tend to write for the entertainment sections primarily, but also focus on topics like senior and health issues. For nearly a year, I have my own bimonthly column at the Las Cruces Sun-News titled "My So-Called Millennial Life."
