Anna Marie Kukec's bylined stories have appeared in U.S. News & World Report, ABA Journal, Argonne Today, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, BusinessWeek Chicago and other publications. She was an award-winning senior writer at the Daily Herald and the Daily Herald Business Ledger, covering Fortune 500 companies and trending topics in the Chicago area. She was part of a Daily Herald reporting team that won a 2017 Chicago Headline Club Lisagor Award for Best Business Writing for a package of stories about the minimum wage. Also, she won first place for best business/financial/consumer story in the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association competition for her Daily Herald story called "Ownership roller coaster leaves future uncertain for Scale-Tronix workers." In addition, she won more awards after foreclosures gripped the region, and she brought the stories of homeowners to the forefront in a four-day series, "The Dream Foreclosed." The series won first place in public service from the Illinois Associated Press Editors Association, the Chicago Journalists Association's Sarah Brown Boyden Award in public service, first place from the National Federation of Press Women, first place in the Illinois Woman's Press Association, and meritorious achievement from the Chicago Bar Association Herman Kogan Awards. She occasionally appeared as a guest on news programs on ABC7-TV, WBBM Radio and WGN Radio in Chicago.
Kukec began her career as a reporter, columnist and section editor for the Daily Southtown newspaper in Chicago. She then became a speechwriter and spokeswoman for the Illinois Attorney General's Office, serving under both Democrats and Republicans.
