A native of Charlotte, NC, Peter Gilchrist has covered a variety of subjects for newspapers in the southeast during the last five years. Gilchrist reported personal stories of workers laid off by the collapse of Pillowtex Corp. and wrote a Sunday cover story on the effect of drowning rains on local farmers for The Charlotte Observer. He also covered education and health for the Augusta Chronicle in Augusta, Ga. He currently freelances for The Charlotte Observer. His column, The City on a Dime, appears in the paper each Sunday. He also helps out with general assignment and feature stories for the paper.
