Maura Kelly Lannan is a freelance reporter based near Washington, D.C. (in Potomac, Maryland) whose work has appeared in national newspapers and magazines. Maura also has written freelance articles for Illinois Issues, which is an Illinois-based political magazine, and Bethesda Magazine based in Maryland. Before becoming a freelance reporter, Maura was a reporter at The Associated Press in Chicago for five years. In that job, Maura covered state government and politics, including then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama. Prior to that, Maura worked as a reporter at the Chicago Tribune in the newspaper's program for experienced journalists. Before that, Maura worked for five years at the Waterbury Republican-American newspaper in Waterbury, Connecticut. Maura covered the state Capitol for that newspaper, as well as local government. Maura earned a master's of science in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and a bachelor of arts in political science and communications from Boston College.
