I'm a San Francisco-based writer and video journalist working in both traditional and new media. My favorite topic is the environment, and I also cover health, technology, and culture, among many other things. Variety is what I like most about freelancing - one week it's all about motorcycles, the next I'm learning about Napa's top wines, and the next I'm in a lab looking at the latest advances in biotech. I started out in journalism with internships at the Christian Science Monitor and the New York Times, and got my MA in Communication from Stanford. I covered the cops and courts beat for the Salinas Californian, then took a position as an editorial assistant for the Latin America Desk at the Associated Press in Mexico City. I later freelanced from there for the Associated Press Television Network and others, and I've continued the same work stateside since coming home last year. I'm grateful to be able to embrace writing, photography and video as I pursue journalism - it doesn't get much better than that.
