"The Society of Professional Journalists and the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, are pleased that Indiana legislators have proposed changes to Senate Bill 101 that make it clear that discrimination is not tolerated in Indiana. SPJ and SDX do not and will not discriminate in terms of employment, membership or advancement in leadership. As an Indiana-based organization we are disappointed that such an ambiguous law was even considered. We encourage lawmakers to swiftly pass and the governor to sign into law the amended bill clarifying their intentions, leaving no doubt that discrimination against the LGBTQ community will not be allowed in Indiana, now or in the future. We hope lawmakers will continue to discuss laws that will fully protect all members of society, including the LGBTQ community.”

Founded in 1909 as Sigma Delta Chi, SPJ promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists; and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.
