Ohio University named SPJ Campus Chapter of the Year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Society of Professional Journalists is pleased to honor a select group of campus chapters for their outstanding work. Among 12 chapters being recognized, Ohio University was named the National Campus Chapter of the Year.

Annually, each of SPJ’s 12 Regional Directors selects one chapter in his or her region that has performed outstanding service to the Society, their campus and the journalism profession. From these 12 chapters, one chapter is selected by SPJ’s Vice President for Campus Chapter Affairs as the Outstanding Campus Chapter of the Year.

The regional honorees are:

Region 1 – Boston University
Region 2 – University of Maryland
Region 3 – Florida International University
Region 4 – Ohio University
Region 5 – DePaul University
Region 6 – University of Wisconsin Eau Claire
Region 7 – Drake University
Region 8 – Texas State University
Region 9 – Colorado State
Region 10 – none selected
Region 11 – San Diego State
Region 12 – University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Ohio University’s chapter was chosen because of its efforts to well-conceive and organize nearly 24 events paired with multiple other media-oriented campus groups, effectively use its social media outlets, creatively utilize Skype for “virtual visits” and efficiently serve its student body with professional-grade programming.

SPJ honored the Ohio University campus chapter at the Student Union event at Excellence in Journalism 2014, Sept. 5 in Nashville, Tenn.
