INDIANAPOLIS – Another noted media organization is co-sponsoring The CCC Awards, which recognize college journalism excellence in the coverage of COVID-19.

College Broadcasters, Inc. will provide promotion and judges for the 2-week-old contest that has already attracted nearly 500 entries from more than 160 student media outlets in the United States and overseas.

CBI joins the Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Collegiate Press and the Society of News Design in supporting these free weekly awards — marking the first time all four organizations have partnered on a single project.

CBI advocates for the nation's college electronic media, including radio and TV stations, advising them on everything from FCC compliance to underwriting to newsgathering.

“CBI is honored to be able to be a co-sponsor of the CCC Awards. It's amazing to see the work being done by these college students in an incredibly trying time and the stories that they are telling,” CBI President John Morris says. “This is another opportunity for our CBI members, and members of all these organizations, to not only possibly be recognized, but to be able to see the work of the top students around the country, and even around the globe. CBI hopes that this serves as motivation for all that are working so hard in college media today."

CBI's addition greatly strengthens The CCC Awards, says SPJ National President Patricia Gallagher Newberry.

“CBI is well known for its college media advocacy and education,” Newberry says. “Its support of these awards not only helps us spread the word, it deepens their meaning.”
