Your School Could Host SPJ's Ward Neff Internship
Attention: Journalism Educators
Proposal deadline: March 15
SPJ is accepting proposals from schools and departments of journalism to serve as the host school for a period of two years for the Ward Neff Internship.
School selected to participate will:
-- Appoint a professor to supervise the work of a graduate student selected by the school as the Ward Neff Intern for a period of one year. A second student will be chosen in the second year of the grant period.
-- Provide a waiver of graduate tuition and fees for the student selected for a period of one year.
SPJ will:
-- Through the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation provide $14,000 as salary to the student intern and $1,000 for the intern’s payroll taxes.
-- Provide an annual $2,000 honorarium for the supervising professor as a lump sum.
The intern will:
-- Work 20-25 hours per week on SPJ PressNotes and Quill magazine news briefs.
-- Help research the Freedom of Information issue of Quill and other editorial projects within the 20- to 25-hour frame.
-- Gather news from key Web sites and wire services and write SPJ PressNotes each morning.
