12 Seats Up for Election on National SPJ Board of Directors

NOMINATIONS DUE JUNE 3
SPJ’s national officers and board of directors play a key role in determining the future of the Society.
The leaders help determine how best to manage SPJ’s finances, grow its membership, and execute its missions of professional development, journalism education, First Amendment protection, and journalism ethics.
Twelve positions on the national board are up for election, and the Society now is looking for members interested in holding leadership positions. Terms will begin in the 2002-2003 year, which starts with elections at the Sept. 12-14 SPJ National Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. Nominations are due to national headquarters on Monday, June 3.
The following board positions will be selected this fall:
-- President-elect (one-year term – becomes president the next year)
-- Secretary/Treasurer (one-year term)
-- Student Representatives (Two positions, one-year term)
-- Regional Directors: 1,4,5,7,8,9 (two-year terms) and 12 (one-year term)
-- Director At Large
-- Adviser At Large
To qualify to run for the national board, you must be a national SPJ member in good standing, have a demonstrated commitment to SPJ, and provide proof of employer support for your SPJ activities. To run for president-elect, you must have served previously on the SPJ board of directors or the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation board of directors, as the chair of a national committee, or as a professional chapter president who has been or is a member of a national committee.
